The Bulldozer and the Rose
By Garnet W. Jex
Recreated by Colleen McKnight, Special Collections Librarian

In 1958, graphic artist and painter, Garnet W. Jex, began photographing Southwest Washington as it was being demolished for redevelopment. From over two hundred photographs taken over a six year period, Jex put together a large slide presentation, titled The Bulldozer and the Rose, chronicling the changes and destruction of old Southwest. This online exhibit recreates Jex's slide presentation using his original script and images.
