Built in 1903 and housed in the former Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square, the Historical Society is situated on a unique, privately operated urban parkland in the heart of DC. With its stunning architecture and classic styling, the Historical Society is home to the collections and archives of the citizens of the District of Columbia.
With over 10,000 square feet of indoor space, two acres of lawn area, and accommodations for catering, music and audio-visual requirements, the Historical Society is a premier location for meetings and special events.
The interior of the building features stunning marble staircases, terrazzo floors and Beaux Arts architecture and can host a standing reception of up to 500, while the entire building including the grounds can host up to 2,000 people. In addition, a state-of-the-art theatre is available with seating for 150, perfect for meetings, panels or film presentation.
The Historical Society of Washington, DC is conveniently located across from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and is easily accessible via car or metro.
